I-9 Verification for New Employees

Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification, is used by U.S. employers to verify the identity and employment authorization of individuals hired for employment in the United States. Employers are responsible for ensuring that Form I-9 is properly completed for each person they hire.

At Raritan Valley Notary Services, we can assist employers and remote employees by serving as an authorized representative of the employer for the Form I-9 verification process. This can be especially convenient for companies hiring employees who work remotely or are located away from the employer's primary office. USCIS permits employers to designate an authorized representative to complete Section 2 on their behalf.

During an authorized-representative appointment, the employee presents acceptable documentation establishing identity and employment authorization. The authorized representative reviews the documentation and completes the employer's portion of Form I-9 according to the employer's instructions and applicable federal requirements.

It's important to distinguish this service from a traditional notarization: Form I-9 itself is not notarized, and a notary seal is not placed on the form. When providing this service, we are acting as the employer's designated authorized representative rather than performing a notarial act. The employer remains responsible for Form I-9 compliance.
